U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield spoke today to Raed al Saleh, Head of the Syrian Civil Defense, which is also known as the White Helmets.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield emphasized that Syria remains a top priority for the Biden Administration, and she highlighted that the United States pledged over $800 million in new humanitarian assistance for the Syrian people at the Brussels VI Conference. The Ambassador raised the dire humanitarian situation in Syria, which makes UN access into Syria all the more critical.  She stressed that the United States is firmly committed to implementing all aspects of Resolution 2585 and continuing the UN-facilitated cross-border mechanism.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield shared her intention to meet with the White Helmets when she next travels to the Syrian border. She thanked the White Helmets for their contributions to humanity and said that the United States is proud to support their lifesaving work.
