Security Message from U.S. Embassy Amman for U.S. Citizens: Coalition Strikes Against ISIL

The below security message from U.S. Embassy Amman was sent to U.S. citizen registrants in Jordan on September 23, 2014.

Security Message for U.S. Citizens:  Coalition Strikes Against ISIL

On September 23, 2014, the United States and regional partners, including Jordan, commenced military action against the ISIL terrorist organization in Syria.  The U.S. Embassy is closely coordinating with Jordanian authorities, but at this time the Embassy has no specific information on increased potential for threats against U.S. citizens.  Given the ongoing nature of the situation, the Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens in Jordan maintain a heightened level of vigilance.  U.S. citizens are likely to see an increased police presence at public and diplomatic buildings throughout Jordan. The Embassy will continue to monitor the situation and will provide further advice as available.

The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to maintain valid travel documents and enroll with the Department of State through the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. By enrolling, U.S. citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.

The U.S. Embassy in Amman is located on Al-Umawiyyeen Street, Abdoun, P.O. Box 354. The telephone number is [962] (6) 590-6000, and the fax number is [962] (6) 592-4102. The after-hours emergency telephone number is [962] (6) 590-6500.

U.S. citizens traveling abroad regularly should monitor the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs website, where the current Worldwide CautionTravel WarningsTravel Alerts, and Country Specific Information can be found.  U.S. citizens should also review “Traveler’s Checklist,” which includes valuable security information for those both living and traveling abroad.
