Statement by U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Michael Ratney on today’s bombings in Damascus

We strongly condemn ISIL’s suicide bombings today in Damascus, which resulted in dozens of people killed and injured.  We extended our heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families.  ISIL’s grotesque violence and toxic ideology have no place in the inclusive, pluralistic, and peaceful future for which so many Syrians have worked, fought, and sacrificed.  As a UN-led political process gets underway in Geneva, today’s attack reminds us of the many dangers facing Syrians and of the urgency with which the international community must continue to work to resolve this conflict and degrade and defeat this shared threat.
